Are you thinking about going out on your own and starting your own cleaning business? Starting your own business is a big step and a big decision, and it shouldn’t be taken lightly. There are a few things that you absolutely must know before starting your own cleaning business and I am going to share with you three of them:
1. What type of cleaning business are you going to start? You need to have a plan and have some idea in which direction to head. Do you want to do house cleaning for individuals or office cleaning for businesses? If you want to do office cleaning do you want to do small offices or large office for big businesses? One factor that may play a part in this decision is whether you want to work during normal business hours or do you want to work after hours? Most businesses will have their cleaners come in after hours to do the cleaning so if you want to clean offices you may have to work a lot of afternoon, evening or weekend hours. If you want to work during normal business hours you may want to do house cleaning.
2. Are you motivated and determined enough to make your own business succeed? Motivation and determination are the two main keys to success in any business and when you are your own boss sometimes it can be easy to lose these qualities. When running your own business there will be moments when you may feel like just giving up and so it is important to have motivation and determination to get your through these rough spots and keep going to make your business successful. Determination and drive is what separates an average business from a successful business.
3. How much competition will you have? If competition is fierce then it will be more difficult to start up and you may find yourself having to bargain on price more than you want to. You may be able to find out through looking in your local papers and find how many cleaning businesses are advertising. You can also put feelers out with the companies in your area to see if they are looking for a good cleaner. It is important to research your competition and the demand for the business before going ahead and starting your business. You can also do some research on your competition to find out what they are doing that you can do better. You may be able to offer customers a special deal or a bonus to gain some customers. Perhaps you can offer a ‘clean five rooms for the price of four’ deal that will encourage potential customers to choose your service over others. (Another common tactic is to “meet or beat competitors prices”.)
It is important to know what you want from your business and do the necessary research into the cleaning business before starting your business. Don’t just rush into a business without having a plan and knowing what you want. By doing your research and knowing exactly what your goals are you will be on your way to having a very successful cleaning business.
